The Summer Olympics of 2012 are only four days away from the start of the opening ceremony. Athletes from around the world have gathered to compete and represent their countries. During this time, I invite you to take a step back and ponder what you can do to improve your physical as well as emotional well-being. Fitness is not just about looking good, but it's about feeling good as well.

When you are watching various events throughout the Olympics, take a moment and consider how much sacrifice and dedication it has taken the athletes to arrive at this level of competition. These athletes come from all over the world, with different upbringings and varying socio-economic backgrounds. Use their success as fuel for your own. Next time you are ready to give up on a set and think you don't have it in you for one more rep, dig deep and tell yourself that you're not giving and that you can do this, much like they have done countless times throughout their careers.

Pushing through that final repetition gives you a mental edge, a sense of accomplishment, utilize this feeling to propel yourself even further in your workouts. Feel good about overcoming a difficult challenge like powering uphill on your bicycle, or plugging away another mile when you thought your legs couldn't handle it anymore. When you've completed your exercise routine, stop for a moment, and tell yourself what you just did. You deserve some appreciation, much like the athletes representing their countries do.
